How do RSS Feeds work?

How come my rss feeds won't work or are upside down?

  • Yahoo! Answers: Questions from ? ? i would like to know how i can get that

  • Answer:

WARNING: Getting the feed links to be accepted - without an error message popping up - can take SEVERAL tries. No kidding, even if you have the correct URL. The module is buggy. But I have eventually been successful in every feed that I've tried to add (see http://360.yahoo.com/kee_y360 ). Clearing my browser's cookies and cache & refreshing the page a few times in between adding links might have helped. The last feed that I added - Pandora - took a month to show up. Yet even if you do add a link successfully, Yahoo is no longer updating the feature regularly. Again, it MAY take MONTHS for it to show up on your 360. You could put the links in the RSS module and wait forever for them to be activated. Also, even if they do show up, they may not update in the correct order. There's nothing you can do about either issue. RSS MODULE INSTRUCTIONS: 1) Go to any the site that you want to get the feed from. Look for the "RSS or XML" link or orange RSS button (okay, sometimes it's a different color). A RSS file will come up on the next page. (If the page looks like raw code, but don't let it scare you! You don't have to subscribe to the feed, you just need to copy that RSS page's URL). - In the case of Y/A, you will not be able to RSS feed your answers as there isn't a specific feed for them. You can only feed your questions, your starred questions, or a Yahoo! Answers category of questions. Click on your avatar or the "My Profile" link in the upper right area of Y/A pages to get to your Y/A profile. There are 3 places to find an RSS button: **** Click on the green RSS button under the "My Stats" box on the right side for "My Questions". **** Click on the "My Questions" tab. Then, click on the green RSS button in the upper right corner of the box. **** Click on the "My Starred Questions" tab. Then, click on the green RSS button in the upper right corner of the box. **** If you want questions from a particular Y/A category, go to that category's page and click on the RSS button under the "Related Links" box on the left side. You can now mouseover the "Save" menu of individual questions and click the RSS option to get a RSS feed link of answers to that question. 2) After clicking the RSS button, you can select the URL found in the address bar of your browser, then use "Ctrl-C" on your keyboard to copy that address. 3) Click the "Add a Feed (via RSS)" or "Edit Feeds" link in your Feeds module on your "My Page" in 360. Use "Ctrl-V" to paste the URL into the "Add a feed" space in that page. Make sure to adjust the permissions for the Feeds module to something other than "Just Me (Private)". 4) When you're done, click the "Save" button below. NOTE: The Y!360 team is no longer addressing bug reports, as it prepares to migrate parts of 360 to a universal profile system (UPS). This transition was announced in October 2007 and the UPS actually started in a rudimentary beta form on October 16, 2008. The Y!360 part of the system hasn't been transferred over fully yet. - See blogs at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/product_360 and http://www.yprofileblog.com for more details. The 360 team blog is also accessible via the "Yahoo! 360 News" link in the upper right corner of your 360 space. You can post complaints on the Yahoo! 360 blog, but don't expect a personal response. - See http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=858 for more information on 360 glitches. - See the links in these blog entries for more details on Yahoo's overall direction and UPS: http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1560 , http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1414 , http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1168 , and http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6fLRvC60pERfR7.8c?p=1236 .
