How does a website get listed on the Internet?

• My daughter started a college alumni website a few years ago, and hoped to keep it private to her classmates only. Gradually more and more articles on her website has been listed on the Internet. How does this happen? Does it mean someone deliberately listed them?

The crawler automatically visits every page on the internet which is open to public and list it in the cache of the search engine!!! If you don't want your content to be in public create a password protected website!! or create a ROBOTS.txt file!!! but it needs a little technical information!! The other possibility that someone lists the site is a vague!! No one can force a search engine to include a site!!!! But you can send them a request to visit a particular site!!!!
