How can I become someones fan?

    If you add another user as a contact, then you are their fan. If somebody adds you, that makes them your fan, not your contact unless you add them back. So if you are concerned about keeping your activity private, if your Q&A are set to "My Contacts Only" fans will not be able to see your Q&A on your profile. However, on your Privacy & Communications page is the setting to "Allow someone from Yahoo! Answers to be my fan" (add you as a contact). On that same page is the option to receive an email whenever somebody you follow asks a question. So while a fan cannot see your private Q&A on your profile, they do have the option to receive an email every time you ask a question, regardless of your privacy settings unless you don't allow fans at all.

You become someone's fan by adding them as a contact. To add someone as a contact scroll over their avatar and on the box it will show up click on add contact. You get fans when someone adds you as their contact. People usually add contacts when they like their answers.
