Why does Yahoo allow the questions and answers to be private?

Why doesn't Yahoo! Answers allow questions to be asked in languages besides English?

  • My question was deleted because it contained Spanish. I wasn’t asking anything inappropriate or offensive and the Spanish was essential to my question. It wasn't even all in Spanish. I feel that not allowing languages besides English unnecessarily discriminates against non English speakers. Is there a reason for this rule that I am not understanding?

    I don't believe the Yahoo! Team has the resources to investigate violations in Spanish or other languages. They would have to employ a staff of Spanish-speakers just to look at the questions to decide if they are abuse. And the filters on Answers work on English only to filter out certain words. All of that code would have to be rewritten to look for words in other languages. In addition, all the instructions, guidelines, blog entries, etc., would have to be rewritten for other languages. Maybe some time in the future there will be an Answers for Mexico or Spain, just as there are versions for other English-speaking countries. I don't think it's a matter of discrimination. It's a matter of economics. And right now, it probably doesn't make sense economically for Yahoo! to allow other languages.

I'm not making excuses for yahoo but if you start with just one question then the next person will ask his question all in Spanish the pretty soon you will see nothing but Spanish in here,there are Spanish boards that cater to the Spanish speaking,no one that speaks English goes there and complains about no English spoken,all it takes is for one to start with nothing but Spanish and then all you'll see is Spanish leaving English out,would you like to be reading Chinese in here and don't understand what they are saying or even know that they might be talking about you
