Why yahoo answers should keep the point system if they only seek quality answers?
-
I have seen most of the answers here in the site, and most of them are so unrelated to the topic, I think answering to accumulate no. of points to be on the top is no fun either or as some of you posted in my previous question stick to what you know and keep answering that question( I am not a robot who is generating points).I guess they should eliminate the points and make everyone at the same level, just post best answers of the week and that’s all. I also think that there should be qualified person to answer questions, for instance if some ask about suicide he should not receive a comment like: get over it, or you are a kid! He/she will hate their world more, there should be a specialist paid to give valuable answers instead of bunch of people who assumes they know it all!! Give me your opinion! No silly comments please

That is exactly my point, Maria. I couldn't have put it better. I agree, and I hope your voice is heard up there. The point system should be eliminated, and for CERTAIN questions, like those about suicide, (not all of them) answerers should be required some qualification. Maybe not a paid psychologist, but at least, you should include in your profile what kind of answers you are prepared to give, and which ones, you are not. I can give advice in language matters, but not in psychological topics. So, I am responsible enough not to meddle in those things. But not everyone is. And since some people are giving too much importance to what they get here, the wrong advice could be disastrous. BTW, if the point with the point system is for you to answer questions, and not only ask them, it could be established that you should, for example, answer a number of questions before you're entitled to ask one. For example, your number of questions cannot be higher than, say, a 10% of your answers (the figure is totally debatable, and not my point, here). And only your valid answers count (that is, not those which were reported and deleted). Then, as you have given more answers, you can have a higher percentage of questions. A system like this would improve the site a lot. And it would keep most point-gamers away, since this would no longer be interesting for them. Of course, there would still be some "smart-á$$es", but at least, we would have solved part of the problem. And also, we would have given YA a different, less materialistic profile.

Because the point system is great!

I have no doubt, and likewise, no evidence, that if you were to form a 'club' of say 10 -12 people, you could accumulate vast scores by say seven people asking questions and the others all voting them best answers. There should be a means by which these people are filtered out of the system

All I'm trying to do is get imaginary points that I can't use for anything. I don't want to spend any time on an answer, nor do I really care about the potential of this forum, whether it be for personal or social growth. In fact I spend as little time as I can trying to embetter myself or others. I will, however, jot down something witty or smart-*** without any regard for myself or others, so long as I don't need to spend to much energy on it. Furthermore, I will intentionally put misleading and/or misguided statements into an answer for the pure satisfaction of knowing that a small percentage of people will listen to my advise, and will suffer great peril. When it comes to questions, I rarely ask them. They take away from my imaginary point pool that I so dearly lust after. However, in the rare occasion that I DO ask a question, it is usuially one born of sloth, as I am too lazy to search for my answer in one of the many free search engines available to me. I may also ask a question that has no real purpose other than to offend and/or hurt any person, no matter how young and impressionable they may be. I take much pride in the number of my imaginary points, and will inflate the number by 300%, for any reason I deem necessary, even though all someone has to do is look at my profile and see what my point total is. Mostly, I would just love to blow out your candle to make mine glow brighter. It's my calling.

did that guy up there just say "toodles?"
a)if there's no points, ppl can ask a million questions w/out answering anything b) if you pay someone, yahoo would have a harder time maintaining the free service c)if you need a paid specialist , don't use yahoo answers unless you're willing to get a wide range of dumb or unkind answers

So, you want Yahoo Answers to hire someone to monitor this FREE service? I don't think it would remain free for very long if all of a sudden Yahoo is monitoring every answer that is posted. Besides, some people on here try to give good answers to peoples questions, I know I do. If I don't know the answer to someones question, I will move on to the next question. I don't post answers just for points as some others do. I think for every 2 or 3 bad answers you will also get one genuine honest answer as well. In my humble opinion.

If your answers are not of good quality, then do not answer the question.

Ahhh it's fun. Leave the point system as it is. If I wanted a serious answer I would either google search it, or ask somebody in person. I can get serious answers on here, but I have to sift through the garbage. I think this forum is better for opinons.

So people who give crappy answers get laughs out of their friends who make their own account and answer questions seriously.
