Why do people ask questions on YA when they can search for the answers on Google?

^^ or other search engines.

Answer:
Person to person interaction is why people ask questions on YA. I'm one of those know-it-alls, according to trolls, who do not ask questions on YA. The very FEW times that I MIGHT post a question on YA is when I want to see HOW people react to the question and how they answer it. I'm really not that concerned with the actual answers, because I probably already know the answer. That's why trolls post questions that they already know the answers to on YA. Trolls feed their egos with the INDIVIDUAL attention paid to them by people who do not understand how a troll's mind works. DON"T FEED THE TROLLS, unless you KNOW you are feeding the troll's paranoia right back to him/her, LIKE I AM DOING RIGHT NOW. I think it may depend on the section. The sections I mostly answer in are Words & Wordplay, Boats and Engineering. In W&W there are a good number of questions from people who are learning English, and it can be very helpful to them to hear from native speakers who can explain idioms and can look at a sentence and say "That's not how a native speaker would say it." There are also lots of silly questions that I ignore and clueless ones from people who want to "go limp" and have their homework done for them. But the ESL questions in particular I think are *not* easily answered by searching. Boats don't get many questions at all, but probably two thirds of them are looking for technical info about an engine problem of some sort. The rest range from clueless to quite interesting. Engineering has lots of homework stuff with some of the questioners just wanting to lie back and others seriously seeking assistance in understanding something that is stumping them, and willing to work for it. There are also general questions about what career paths to take, and once in a while an actual real-world problem that someone is trying to solve. I have a bit of medical background and occasionally visit a health/medicine question and many times people there seem to be looking for reassurance from an actual person (even though they might get better info off the web). But there are a lot of for example adolescent and particularly female questions there where young'uns are confronting confusing changes in their bodies and relationships and really value hearing from some people who've been through that. I admit being (at age 61) rather surprised at how frank some of these kids are willing to be when talking to a universe of strangers. And they do get some rude answers, but mostly respectful ones and often very useful as well. The ones I find absolutely astonishing are the very few where the obvious answer is to be dialling 911 (or three nines) rather than messing about on the intertubes. However in all of those sections (less in boats) are a considerable number of queries from people who simply don't seem to have the slightest clue about searching. A lot of them don't seem to have much clue about spelling, either. I've heard that many sections are largely trollfests and flamebait, but I don't visit those sections. Added: Another thing that suggests to me that people largely aren't seeking human interaction as such (in the sections I visit) is that surprisingly few come back and pick a best answer or say thank you. The serious students tend to be better in this regard. Added: of the five (technical) questions I've asked since 2009, only one got thoughtful and useful answers. But they were all of somewhat unusual nature.

I was just thinking of the same thing! I mean if they are asking stuff like do like this or that but to ask stuff like what does that mean they could use google and get it right away
