How to get more votes for competion?

How come some questions get multiple votes, when others only get a few?

• I've been here for a few years now, on level seven, recently I see one of the questions I answered, that went to public voting, I have 72 votes & the only other answerer has 40 votes. But 99.9% of the answers I've ever given that have gone to public votes, I see only a few votes for best answers, sometimes on mine sometimes on others, I don't get it, how could there be that many votes on one question? It wasn't a very interesting question either, so it couldn't be "popular" or searched for a lot. Just wondering.

  Usually that happens when the asker 'sends' the question into voting early ... within hours of posting. Since the recent 'rule change' that allows an asker to choose a Best Answer after one hour, some askers are sending their questions to voting an hour after asking the question ... meaning that the question might still be on the category homepage. Users click on the question (intending to answer the question, but finding that they're unable to do so) and vote for Best Answer.
