Wts the benefit of scoring points in yahoo answers?

Answer:
I often wonder why I've become so obsessed with this website and scoring points -- they really don't do anything for you. If you click on the points under your screen name it will take you to a page that lays it all out and tells you how many questions you can ask at which level, etc., etc., etc...and I think it says something about how when you reach a certain level there will be some sort of special prize "coming soon". Points give you the ability to ask more questions, but how many questions does a person need to ask? I answer a lot more of them than I ask. But that's just because I enjoy it and like helping people. I don't think I really even care about the points.

supposedly they'll be redeemable for schwag later on -- but right now i bet yahoo has no idea either. (look at yelp.com - they give out free stuff to their experts...but since our answer quality ranges, y can't do that...) IMHO, their incentive scheme has made the Q&A quality very poor, as everybody becomes focused on transactions, versus quality.

i use them to buy pennywhistles and moon candy

I don't answer to score point, I answer to get that little glowing feeling of helping somebody. However, questions like these I answer for points. Just so I can say "NAH NAH, I have more points than you"

Simply put...points are Yahoo's way of rewarding us for helping people.

I'm not really sure other than you use them to ask questions, and their are people out there that waste them. Their are also people out there that really must not have a life, they really have a lot of points.

benefits to whom????? yahoo does it to give incentive and introduce a competitive element. to keep people coming back, they also promised suprises with reaching different levels , these are still misterious and I have yet to be suprised. i expected a fanfare or at least a picture of some flowers with reaching a new level. but nothing so far . the only suprise has been the unability to paste the first suprising suprise ,the badge ,into yahoo 360. when asking how to do this i was suprised with no response. I think yahoo dont know either ,unless there is a trick to it ,and this was some sort of competense test ,which I failed. on reaching level 7 i was expecting a telegram from some queen ,to give me an electronic orgasm maybe ,or a suprise ,but to my suprise there was only silence ,and my moment of glory was for me alone, But the points kept me going to get this far , so who is the clever boy then,? yahoo ofcourse for getting me to follow their ghostly carrots.
