What is wrong with my YA account?

Why do Yahoo allow users of YA to have more than one account?

  • There are people on here who are creating multiple accounts and asking and answering their own questions to falsely achieve Best Answer. This seems childish and unfair to people who use the site correctly. On Yahoo Horseracing section there has been a Troll who repeatdly reported perfectly appropriate questions and the result was that 20 plus users found another site to carry on their horseracing chat and competitions away from YA. Do you not think that Yahoo should only allow people to create just the one account and that they should monitor the site correctly instead of sending out computer generated Violations and computer generated replies to appeals against violations... Also thumbs down is ok as long as the Avatar of the thumbs downer is shown as a 'Disagree' box next to the box where your Avatar is shown if you think the question is Interesting. This would do away with some of the Cowards who thumbs down annon. hiding behind the skirts of YA. What are your thoughts?

  • Answer:

It's bad enough that these people are allowed to have multiple accounts to boost their points, but when Y/A's let them report Q's for no reason and copy other users questions (see below) it really does go beyond the pale. As for avatars being shown by t/d's, I think that's an excellent idea! http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjdgL_IHmz9omf8NoCXD6It.T31G;_ylv=3?qid=20110513153832AAeGSpZ

You are allowed ONE account only for use with Answers. You need to report those with multiple accounts

From what I understand Yahoo! does monitor the site for people who try to use multiple accounts, the bad thing is that there are SO many that do this that Yahoo doesn't have enough employees to keep up with all of them. It is easy to spot those that cheat, but the numbers are so high and as fast as people report those users and Yahoo suspends their accounts, they are just truning around and creating new ones. It is pitiful to say the least as It just ruins the fun for those of us who actually enjoy coming on here and answering questions with good legit answers. I had read somewhere on here a couple months ago that Yahoo may do away with the Thumbs Down, I really wish they would, that feature serves no purpose, it's just a little clicker toy for those who like to play. I'm sure you have seen the banner that Yahoo has up on the page saying that they will be doing some maintenance on the site Monday morning, I just hope that this maintenance will include removing some features that really have no ethical uses. ☼

Multiple accounts are a violation of the Community Guidelines and may result in the suspension of your accounts as in http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers/overview/overview-76116.html If multiple account users are not reported they will get away with it and if they are reported and suspended they can keep on creating new accounts. There is really no way that you can stop these people and there is really nothing that Yahoo! can do. Of course, any that are reported and suspended lose all their points and have to start afresh like a new member with a mere 100 points.

With a single account, your enemies, not by hatred but because of their dedication will remove your account. Yahoo doesn't do that. Possessing multiple Answers accounts constitutes cheating, and it's strictly prohibited under the Community Guidelines. Users with multiple accounts are at risk of getting caught by the community and will lose all of them by suspension.
