Well i think you would have to make sure that your website fits the catagory in which you search. if not try and contact yahoo and try and get some advice.

Well this cannot be ansered so easily. Generally, to show up in the non paid spots, takes from 6-12 months and maybe even longer. You should read, read, and read some more... Check out www.webmasterworld.com and www.webproworld.com and learn about the different search engines and there quirks. If you want to pay your way in try google adwords, or Overture, depending on what your site is about you can get very affordable traffic. Finally, in order for your site to be indexed, you will need to be linked to from other good ranked sites. Be careful of listing your site in the "spammy" directories, though cause that will get you banished particularly in google. Good Luck, it is not an easy task.
