  Yes Yahoo is out to make money. Every company wants money. Even non-profit corporations want money, so they can donate it and run their programs. Don’t worry about Yahoo they are out to make money, just like anyone else. Most of these questions have the answerer running off to the Internet. If you go through Yahoo then you get fed some ads. If you click on an ad then Yahoo makes a profit off of it. Also they are promoting the use of their web search engine and Wikipedia. This lets them claim, truthfully, that they are getting a lot of searches and are therefore a high-ranking search engine. Some companies pay Yahoo so their sites will come up first in a search that applies to their site. It's legal as long as the site tells Yahoo that they have the information the searcher is looking for. Therefore Yahoo is making money off this as well. It is a little at a time, but with the millions of people on the board it mounts up quickly. It is also helping them compete against Google, the giant search engine. Yahoo! Answers is also promoting the use of their e-mail system. People on the board can talk with each other, but you are limited in the length of your letters, to save space. This means more people are using Yahoo! Mail, which can get them a higher ranking. When you get a response or a best answer response then you go to your mailbox. Once again you are faced with some ads, and if you click one then Yahoo gets paid. To get into Yahoo! Answers you need a Yahoo account, and you have a Yahoo! My Page. When you put some content on your page a few companies may pay Yahoo for this. To either get a higher placement, or to generate more traffic. A lot of this content has clickable ads, which again generates money for Yahoo. As for storage space, yes it takes a lot of space to hold this, but not as much as you think. Remember that you are only able to use one font without Bold, Italics, or Underlining; which saves space, text files are pretty small. They can use certain computer programs to tighten the space even more. Clickable links are just a little extra text, so that doesn’t take up much space either. You can’t include any attachments which again saves a lot of space. Then there is the size of their drives. It may not be worth it to you to create a Terabyte drive, after all it can hold more than the entire contents of the Library of Congress. It is economical for Yahoo though. They need something similar to handle all their e-mail. The number of questions expire so they can clean out their files every month, which again saves hard drive space. Yahoo! Answers is a bit of a scam, but it does help a lot of people, especially those who don’t know how to work a search engine. It also promotes conversation, which can make forge a few friendships. So all in all Yahoo! Answers is a good deal. You don’t have to click on those ads, and you don’t have to use Yahoo’s search engine. If you do though then you help to make Yahoo!
