Why can't I upload a picture to be my new avatar?

I keep trying to upload a saved picture from my computer and make it my avatar, but it won't work. It is the correct size and everything. Has this been happening to anyone else? Help?!

Answer:
Occasionally, Y! waits for the avatar to appear; wait a little longer (1-3 days) and if it doesn't come up, report this to staff. This has happened to me a few times and it's ALWAYS worked after less than a day, but has at times taken hours on in.
