Violation Question?

Why was this question in violation?

  • I asked this question (it was before the current conflic when I asked this question but just today I recieve a violation) I really wanted to know the answer because my fiance is Jewish and I am Muslim and I wanted to visit Israel. Here is the question.. Question: Are Muslim tourists welcome in Israel? Details of Violation: I have an American passport. Reason of Violation:Incites Violence or Hatred : What was wrong with this question? Why was it in violation?

  • Answer:

I don't see the violation. It is a legitimate question as far as I am concerned. I think another user, probably one still trying to master "Green Eggs & Ham", reported you. The Y Answers Team should have reviewed the question and made the final determination. Due to understaffing or laziness, the Y Answers Team didn't do this. Because so many users utilize the Reporting system to launch their own personal vendettas against other users, the system gets flooded with frivilous abuse reports and the Y Answers Team doesn't always do the best job of determining what is and isn't legitimate. As to your intended question, I would say that I believe that Muslim tourists are welcome in Israel but to be on the safe side I would contact a Travel Agent or a Federal Agency.

Don't know, I answered one question asking for the question in English as the gobbledygook that was written was undecipherable and got a violation.

Doubt Yahoo! thought this through actually, but it could be because Muslims have a stake in Jerusalem as it is one of their holy cities and to call them a tourist in the land they perceive to be their own land occupied by an enemy may be somewhat insensitive to Muslims.

Any answer is likely to be inflammatory. If the answer was yes, they would be welcome, this might be countered by mention of the behaviour of some extremists in Israel (both sides). If no, the detail might also be inflammatory. Being of Jewish descent, at least in part, I am grieved by the behaviour of all parties in the area. Too many people are suffering. Too many families wrecked. Someone needs to break through, such as happened in South Africa. Someone must say "Enough. Let us forgive and take this no further, for the sake of our children." But who in the Middle East has guts like that?

It's important to remember that a large section of the Israeli population is actually muslim - there are even muslim representatives in the Knesset. Having said that, ANYONE visiting Israel should expect serious security screening, both entering, and especially when leaving the country. It can certainly make you feel less than "welcome", and anyone with passports issued by muslim countries, or with visas/entry stamps from those countries, will usually have a harder time. It's also important to remember that religion is a touchy subject with many in Israel, and there will very likely be people who have similar views to your parents, so choose wisely who you chat to and how much you tell them.

I don't know as it reads fine - perhaps they are being ridiculously 'PC' and wanting to avoid anything that may be seen as controversial. I got a violation the other day for asking how I get the avatar for my profile!!
