Im unable to chat directly from my messenger 8.0, why?

I downloaded the new messenger and I cant chat from my messenger box. I have to log into the homepage. Chat is very different from before. I want my old verison of chat back, how can download an older verison or the verison that I had before?

To get to chat on messenger, you have to click on Messenger then Yahoo! Chat and you can join a room. To download the old version of messenger, go to http://www.yazakpro.com/chatstuff/yahoo/help/messengerdownloads.htm.
