Initial rate question?

You think the community should be able to rate a question ?

  • This thought came to my mind after I did the "Stupid Abuse" question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Av3fYG5SfJ_Y7RO2QqhF0F3sy6IX?qid=1006041910831 But it would be nice to rate a question so it would be better for new users and visitors to see what questions are worth looking at and if their were really no good answers for the question but a best answer got selected even if it was bad you could rate the question low and if the same question is asked and it has good answers it could be rated better. Before you think about the thumbs-ups thing think about rating the question not the answer and having the rating displayed beside the resolved question. Just a thought I figured was worth killing off a few points for, What do you think?

  • Answer:

I'm not sure what you're asking for. In your example, you're saying that the rating could be determined by the best answer that was selected, but that has already been rated. Thinking about this for a few minutes, though, I think the ability to give thumbs up to an alternate answer might be a good idea. Answers that got enough thumbs up would be highlighted. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do about user's who don't bother to read the answers or deliberately choose the wrong one. Of course, they still lose out in the sense that they remain ignorant of what the real answer is.

Ratings a must. Too many of the questions, never mind the answers, are poorly spelled and semi-literate. No need to flame the culprits, but a little gentle pressure might improve the viability of the site as a general research tool, or at its least ambitious, a place where there can be a little accidental learning. By the way, questioner, you might think of punctuating your longer, more rambling sentences.
