Would longer open question time improve Yahoo!Answers?
-
The breakneck Q&A rhythm is bad for the quality of the answers. If only the "questioners" could wait a little longer, they would almost surely get better, more thorough answers. At least in my case, sometimes I just don't bother to type anything because I know that during the 3 minutes it takes me to elaborate, 10 people will have posted a wikipedia link. I'm not referring to "urgent" questions (and by the way, one of these days someone will ask "My grandfather is on the floor convulsing and foaming at the mouth. Yahoo Answers, what do I do?"). Bottom line: wouldn't it be better if questions had a minimum "open" period?

They've already done that. You cannot close a question before 24 hours pass after asking it. But I think that usually people close a question when they have received the answer they want/best answer especially when people start just typing the same answer over and over. So, don't you think this will just encourage those who are out to gain more points to just imitate other people's answers??

But sometime we need to close a question before, specially when I have got bes possible answer and all continues giving the same answer.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. You now have to wait 24 hours to pick a best answer or put a question to a vote. Personally, I think the asker should be able to set how much time is allotted to keep a question open. For example simple questions will get lots of responses and complex questions will get few responses and need to stay open longer. I have seen some questions get 20 to 40 responses within an 8 hour period, which, if you ask me is just too many and in some cases they all say pretty much the same thing. But, as I said, the system is better than it was. So I guess to answer your question, the minimum open period is now 24 hours. It has all been posted over on the blog, http://blog.360.yahoo.com/y_answrs_team?p=369&n=28500

As long as you, the asker, doesn't have the answer you are looking for then people can answer for up to 7 days. Most people cut it off early when they feel no one else will answer or they got the answer they need.
