Im 16 and love helicopters and would love to some day learn how to fly a helicopter, I have some questions though... What age can you learn to fly a helicopter, how long does the training take? How much will it cost? and is it worth it? Cheers!!

Answer:
helicopters are indeed lovable creatures, but the biggest hurdle to overcome in learning to fly one is to get over the dizziness that comes wtih all that spinning round and round, some just get sick and stay sick, most though get over it. You may be offered a free sick bag as part of a training package

The first thing to do is book a first or introductory lesson, aside from a short instructional flight to see if this really is for you we will also explain in more detail how to proceed. For those who can’t wait however - these are the frequently asked questions. Costs? For our 2 seater Robinson R22 the cost of a first flight lasting 30 minutes will be around £140 (£160 inc VAT). Thereafter a typical 60 minute flight will be £230 (£265 inc VAT) including associated ground school briefings. In total a PPL will cost in the region of £12,500 (£14,375 inc VAT) in the R22. All flights are subject to landing fees. PPL? The licence allows you to fly on your own or with passengers but not to make money from flying. Aside from the airfields in Scotland there are a wide variety of private landing sites at hotels and interesting locations. What is my commitment? Learning to fly helicopters demands a commitment in terms of time, effort and money. We suggest that you aim to fly regularly (3 times a month ideally or more) in addition set aside a few hours per week to study. From start to finish would ideally be around 12 to 15 months. Can anyone do it? A basic medical must be undertaken but no background in flying is necessary and if you are over 14 and under 80 age is no barrier! Sorry never done this so I don't know if it is worth it. +

Close enough i'm 17 and got my ppl(h). And loved every second of my training. Lets see your 16 so you can train now, but you can't get your license until you 17. I know only a handful of people who managed to only do the minimum of 45 hours. Don't aim to do it in that time, you'll put yourself under too much stress. Instead aim for 60 hours maybe 55. I stretched my training out over 1 and a half years, juggling school work and all. Ahh the biggy, the cost well if i was to say around the £16,000 mark i wouldn't be too far off, maybe a grand either way. Is it worth it ... YES, oh god yes. The hard work, the sweat, the tears, they all disappear when you fill out your first self fly hire form. And if your lucky enough you'll get a cracking good instructor like i did. Well good luck and i wish you all the best.
