What is jet lag?

Hm...what is jet lag?

  • I know, It's a very stupid question, But I dont know what "Jet lag" is. is it when you cant sleep on a plane, or what?

  • Answer:

Both are right above. Another way of looking at it. Suppose you fly from New York to San Francisco. You leave at 6pm. It is a 5 hour flight, but you cross 3 time zones to get there. When you land, your body feels like it's 11pm, but when you check the clock, it now says its only 8pm. 8pm and you're already tired? All your local friends are just getting ready to go out. When you stay out till midnight, your body really feels like its 3am. It takes a few days to fully adjust.

It is where you travel long distances by jet that spans several time zones. Your body is used to the time zone of the starting point and not adjusted to the time zone of the destination point. I.E. Your body may be used to the U.S. Eastern time zone. But you are in the U.S. Pacific time zone were 8 PM local time is Midnight Eastern time. Your body is not adjusted to this new time zone. It may take your body a few days to adjust to the new time zone. This is Jet Lag. The greater the distance traveled the greater the Jet Lag.

It isn't a stupid question. You should have asked it in the Travel category though.
