Answer:
There are several low cost options. You can scout around at your local airport and see if there's anyone with a C-152 or 172 who would be willing to rent it to you for a good price. You can find someone else who is in similar circumstances and the two of you can rent a multi-engine airplane to build some multi time. If one of you is under the hood you can both log PIC time because you're both required crewmembers under these circumstances. You can become a flight instructor. It doesn't take a terribly long time to get your commercial and CFI certificates. This is a very common way to build flight time. When you get your commercial certificate you can fly freight. This is probably more difficult in the current market because there are so many unemployed airline pilots who have probably already snatched those jobs up.

Well, first you need to obtain your private pilots license. You can get a lot of hours from that. 250 hours are needed to obtain your commercial license.

A friend of mine charged me and other friends half the rental and fuel to go flying. It was a blast. I got to helm the craft (just like a boat, but 3D). He showed me 2G, 3G, 0G and what a nose-down, rapid descending tailspin looks like. I went up several times before he got his twin license. Then I moved. Anyway, it was a great way to differ the cost of racking up hours for him. (Thank you, Gordon. Where ever you are.) T

The headquaters is racked up? OMG, run for your lives... I sincerely hope that one would need to be able to read and write before getting a pilot license.

Airlines are currently hiring pilots with about 1,500 total hours and 200 multi engine hours. The best way to rack up hours is by teaching other pilots how to fly... this is being a Certified Flight Instructor. 1st you will need to get your Pilot Certificate, then your Instrument Rating (flying in the clouds) and next your Commercial Pilot Certification (getting paid as a pilot to fly!). Next get your Certified Flight Instructor Certification and teach others how to fly. Pretty soon you'll be ready for a job with the airlines! Easiest way is to buy your own plane, or flight instruct, and get paid for those hours while building them.

Find someone else who needs hours, and once both of you have your private pilot licenses, practice instrument flying together. One flies under the hood and another flies as safety pilot. This way both log the time.
