Answer:
Depends on your rank which is gained with age and time in service. Since you are an A&P, they might bring you in (after basic) as an E-3. But you'd have to check with a recruiter. As for pay, it's public record for all branches of the military, you can find it on the web.

Pay in the Military is based on rank and time served unlike civilian occupations. Base pay and allowances for an entry level recruit are about 1000 a month. You could make a bit more than that being a graduate of a technical cours. Your best bet is to contact an air Force Recruiter and he can give you accurate answers. I have included a link to the AF web site.

Dear God don't compound your mistake by joining the military. I am an A&P mechanic and I make over $5,000 per month. And my wages are considered CRAP in the year 2010 as we find ourselves. So you can see how low military wages are. The military isn't a job...it's about serving your country. Man?...you screwed up getting an A&P. You wasted that time getting an A&P. You can never get that time back. It's gone forever. The same would be true of time spent in the military. You don't have that kind of time to waste...nobody does. Your peer group is RACING ahead of you....but it's not too late.....as long as you don't go into the military. Now, put that behind you and find something else to do.....PERIOD. Don't walk away from aircraft maintenance...RUN away from it. Your training as an A&P mechanic is very sought after in other fields. The Rail Roads LOVE A&P mechanics. For God sake don't compound your mistake by joining the military. If you do, your thankless nation will use you and abuse you and spit you out when they are done with you. Ask me how I know. Thats the reality. I wish it were different because, I loved my time in the Air Force....because of the interesting job and because of the fellow airmen I served with...NOT because of the screwed up organization. But bottom line it is a waste of your precious time. Never waste time. You are only twenty years old...it's not too late to get back on track. You will never catch up to your peer group...but you aren't that far behind. You're only twenty, don't let yourself fall behind even farther. Get back on track and STAY on track. Always think ahead to the future and keep your goals in sight. Good luck.

I think its all dependent on rank + living expenses where you get stationed. But with with having an A&P already they might start you out at a higher rank than usual. You probably have to talk to a recruiter to find out that stuff, but I'd bet the USAF will pay you more than most jobs in this economy. Then you'd get out in 4 years with experience and hopefully a good economy with places hiring.

An E-1 will earn 1,447.20 a month in basic salary. This doesn't include housing allowances, basic allowances, and other supplements. If your tech school gave you an associate's degree then you'll enter as an E-3 for 1,705.80 a month.
