I want to work for an airline.

I want to work for an airline company as a commercial pilot. Will they train me?

  • Im leaving school next year, and i want to become a commercial airline pilot (like 747 or something). The problem i have is i havent got the money to spend to train (£50,000+ ?) Is there any company like easyjet that will pay for me to train, and then i can work for them after, like an apprenticeship. If not is there any where else that will at least reduce the cost of me training because i really want to do this but just dont have the money :( Thanks

You did not say the level of schooling you are leaving. Are you leaving or finishing? It makes an enormous difference. To my knowledge no airline is offering any sort of apprenticeship toward becoming a pilot. Beware of the flight school hype. This is an elaborate process to separate you and your parents from a lot of money. There are almost no seats available now and those that are open are being filled by former military pilots. The least qualified of which have more hours and infinitely better training than you could ever obtain in those pseudo-aviation colleges. Probably you do not have a ton of cash to squander, so invest your time and effort in training for an occupation that will put food on the table.

I don't think they will. I know some people who went down the path of becoming a pilot and most had to spend thousands to do so. I think you can do something with the UK Army, and they will fund it, but you will have to join the army for this. Other than that you have to spend your own money, or in most cases your parents money.

The answer, in short, is NO. There are no sponsorship programs in the UK any more. All the ab-initio courses are currently self-sponsored.

yo im in the same boat m8 ive just finished school aswell.

No, and to get a 747 rating will take much more than 50000. You'll have to find alternative financing to make this happen. You could do it by working your way up to it but it would take a long time, (several years of making lousy wages) And you would still have to finance your training until you could get your commercial ticket so you could start making money by flying. And, are you in good health? Any family history of high blood pressure or color blindness? You will have to pass a medical every few years and if your health declines, you might lose your license.

I am not aware of anybody that funds the entire training. One reply below mentioned Cityjet but if you look at the website point number 3 is that you must be able to fund the entire training. Good luck.
