How long does it take to advance in the Civil Air Patrol Cadets?

  • I'm thinking of becoming a Civil Air Patrol Cadet. I'm sixteen and want to get as far in rank as possible. How long does it take to go up in rank? And how long would it take to reach Spaatz?

  • Answer:

    You have the possibility of 1 promotion every other month, unless you are in JROTC also, then you get waived for 1 per month. When you get to Cheif MSGT it takes 4 months to promote per rank. If you keep on scedual you should be at the same place on the celendar. Once you get to the field grade ranks they get very hard but very rewarding also. You could probably definately get the Eaker (LTC) if you are extremely commited and motivated. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!! 1st Year 0=Start of Experience: C/AB 2 months: C/Amn 4: C/A1C 6: C/SrA 8: C/SSgt Milestone (Wright Bros Award) (Cadet NCO) 10: C/TSgt 12: C/MSgt (Start Senior NCO Ranks) 2nd Year 14 months: C/SMSgt 16 C/CMSgt 18 Armstrong Award 20 C/2LT Milestone (Mitchell Award) (Cadet Officer) 22 -- 24 C/1LT 3rd Year 26 -- 28 C/CPT 30 -- 32 C/Maj 34 -- 36 C/LTC (Eaker Award) 4th Year 38 -- 40 -- 42 C/Col (Spattz) GO FOR IT!!!!!!! It really matters how motivated you are. If you are motivated you would be promoting when ever you can which is a custom 2 months. Now im a Cadet senior airmen and im very motivated. Im a element leader and a cadet NCO. and im just a senior airmen. So it m,matters how you are motivated.

To go through the airman/nco ranks it takes about 2 months per rank. I've heard that the maximum number of promotions is 3 a year (talk to your testing officer to be sure). Most people reach their Spaatz in about 4-5 years. Just stay motivated and have fun. I'm a C/2d Lt. and i'll probably get mine in 1 1/2 to 2 years

It depends the first thing you need to do before you get your first stripe and become C/A You need to pass PT ask your flight commander of fellow cadets for this chart and then you need to pass leadership 1 and a drill portion. Good luck!
