What's the medical or physical requirement for aircraft avionics employee?

Aircraft Mechanic(BSAMT) vs. Avionics Mechanic(BSAvTech)?

  • Advantages over the other? Salary? Job opportunity? Difficulty of the work? And lastly, what would you choose Aircraft mechanic or Avionics ?

  • Answer:

I spent most of my life as an A&P mech. I also got a first class FCC license. I've worked aircraft and avionics. Those "black boxes" live in a much nicer environment that wheels and brakes. They weigh less than hydraulic actuators, and you don't have to carry them as far up the ladders. Most avionics work is "black box replacement and function testing. Avionics is a lot easier, and there will be less competition for the jobs. Aircraft mechanics is challenging, rewarding and difficult. As a young man there was no choice, I would work aircraft, and powerplant. As I got older, the avionics began to look better. Fewer ladders, less time in the snow and rain, lighter work.
