Is it harder for a brown guy to become a pilot?

Can a young guy who's a mediocre driver and never did well in math and physics become a successful pilot?

  • My brother wants to become an ATP, His driving skills are just average and he always hated math and physics in school, Do you think he can make it?!

  • Answer:

Most pilots are considered lousy drivers anyway. Math and physics aren't necessary fields of study for becoming a pilot. Your brother sounds like a lot of pilots I know. If he's really serious and committed to doing it, he will.

I been told from some research That I did that being a pilot take simple math but it will help to know some of the harder math like algebra 1

Driving skills have little to do with flying. Math might but if he memmorizes the tables or can use a computer, he shouldn't have any problem. Years ago, one had to be a short person to fly jets because of all the electronic equipment, but thanks to smaller chips, tall guys are now allowed. physics is just common sense, don't be scared off because its connected to math.

Tell him to join the military, primarily the Air Force. they'll train him to be a pilot. He might not get to fly jets, but maybe props. hard to say how driven he is to want to succeed.

Math has nothing to do with becoming an ATP. The only thing that would come close to it is the Math classes you have to take in college to get that 4-year degree to make your resume look good.

Driving skills have no bearing on becoming a successful pilot. A basic understanding of maths and physics will help him pull along. It will depend on your brother's application and his dedicated approach towards learning to fly that will bring him success. Flying is simple if a person is interested, and keen to understand the procedures and put them in practice. A mediocre driver is not necessarily a bad flyer. I would suggest you give your brother full encouragement, and appreciate his achievements as he takes up flying. I assure you he will make it and I personally wish him all the best.

Becoming a pilot has nothing to do with driving skills. That being said, the attitude of being a safe pilot does. Being a person that likes to take chances could make a pilot that does the same, which in the air is a big no no. Flying is an art and a science, but it also demands discipline and attention to detail. Math is not complex, but used to compute times speeds, fuel requirements etc... which is simple arithmetic. The training is easy at the beginning and after the private rating things get more complicated as you progress. It is very rewarding and could pay a good salary if you make the grade in the airlines. (NOT ALL DO) Good luck
