How does Priceline's 'name your own price' work?

How much has anyone saved using Pricelines name your own price?

  • r does anyone know of some places to get some hot deals? Orbitz, expedia, trvelocity....etc...they are all the same....outrageous.

  • Answer:

years ago a real 65%. However in the recent pass nothing at all. by the time they tack on their fees you are best off doing some serious price shopping. Priceline was a great idea at the beginning, now they are watching their bottom line not yours... Be sure to reset your cookies when searching for a flight deal. If you don't you run the risk of getting the same quotes over and over (even when their is a lower rate available).

I did a trip from L.A. to New York with 2 other people. We used priceline for the airfare, hotel and car rental. We saved probably around $150 -200. Much to my surprise, it all worked great! The airline tix were waiting for us. The car was a good car (mid-size, not compact!) and the hotel was as good as promised. No problems or extra charges anywhere. I was astonished! Enjoy your trip.

No, not really. Priceline saved me a bundle. Let me give you a brief explanation of my experience. I was attending a wedding party. The father of the bride blocked a bunch of rooms (about 50 rooms) for out of town guests and it was supposed to be at $65 per night, which is regularly $110 per night at this hotel. Guess what? Same hotel, same dates and same room that I was supposed to get thru the wedding party - thru Priceline - I got it for $35 per night. Obviously I did not boast to the rest of the guests to make them feel bad. One more thing: For the same wedding, they reserved cars for 15 people at $25 per day. At Avis, I got the mid-size car, thru Priceline for $19 per day unlimited mileage. Their regular was $28 per day. Actually, they upgraded me to a full size at no additional charge because they ran out of all rental cars on that day. I should have booked my airline tickets with them too. But it was too late to do anything about.

I saved 300$ on time. It is very rare that I save anything.

Depends on what time of year. During any of the major holidays... no. Planes are pretty much booked up and airlines don't need to auction off empty seats at a deep discount. But, at other times of the year, most definitely. I've saved anywhere from 10-60%. One time, I saved 78%, but I think that was a fluke. Keep in mind that you'll probably end up with a flight with 2-4 stops, either really long layovers or ones that are so short that you don't know if you'll make the next plane, and no choice of departure/arrival times. I only use it when my entire luggage is carryon and I don't care when exactly I arrive.
