Why do railroads use timber ties on bridges and concrete ones on the ground?

Are Ground Power Units still in use?

  • are ground power units (GPUs) for the B747 still in use? If they are, are there portable ones and stationary ones? i would appreciate a few links here and there cuz i am doing a school project.. =)

    GPUs are still being used be it on Boeing Aircrafts and other A/crafts They are portable, but bulky. But these are only for / during Maintenance in the Hangar. Its is as an alternative power supply while the Aircrafts are on Ground. I am not sure if you can access to AMMs (Aircraft Maintenance Mannual) To view these documents, I do not have it on hand with me. These are available from Manufacturers Online Website, however only these inofs are for authorised personnels only. I can assit you, but only to a general level. I am werking in the Aerospace industry though, Drop me an e-mail if you wish to know more. Hope this answers your questions.

I will tell you that GPU's for the B747 are still used. For the other information, I will tell you like I tell my son, do your own danm research, go to an internet search engine and type in B747 Gpu.
