What would be the best airline to fly from Europe to North America?

Crusing Altitudes Over Europe. Are They Different?

• Is it my imagination or the cruising altitude for commercial airliners lower over Europe (specifically Germany) than it is in North America? I seem to be able to make out what airline is flying over head over here in Europe as opposed to when I'm back home.

  The cruising altitudes for aircraft are largely the same, although different countries may have different rules on the exact altitudes flown by aircraft under instrument or visual flight rules. Airliners like to fly between roughly 30,000 and 40,000 feet, where they get the best fuel economy and performance, and they fly in that same range everywhere in the world. Perhaps the places you've been to in Germany have clearer weather than the places you've been to in North America, or perhaps they had different patterns of air traffic over them.
