When a jet aircraft lands, how many feet does it take for the aircraft to stop completely and finish landing?

When an jet aircraft lands, it takes time when it lands to stop right? I want to know how many feet in average it takes for a jet aircraft to stop moving when landing.

Answer:
what kind? how heavy is it? how fast is it going? how long is the runway? etc etc etc SERIOUSLY, there are so many variables to consider that this question is a waste of time cause there is no simple answer

The answer to this question varies greatly. One of the answers already given says that it is a factor of the aircraft speed, the wind speed and the type of airplane. All of this is true. There are many other factors that go into determining how quickly an airplane can stop after it's landing gear touches the runway. Arresting gear on modern aircraft carriers brings an airplane to a stop in 186 feet. If a B-52 loses its brakes, a 10,000 foot runway is not enough. In my younger days, I landed a J-3 Cub in a 40 MPH headwind. There was no roll-out at all. When the plane touched down, I cut power and the wind blew it BACKWARDS. This is not a joke. Any light plane in a heavy enough headwind can "stop on a dime". If you have a specific airplane and set of conditions in mind, maybe you should re-ask the question and someone can fill you in.

Well, there can be two points of reference. One is the total runway used which include part of the runway the plane flies over prior to touchdown, touches down and then stops. The other one is the distance once the jet touches the runway until it stops. The FAA has specific requirements for commercial airlines to compute landing distances and runways requirements. An average commercial pilot may use 4,000 to 6,000 feet of a runway from the start to stopping the plane. They can stop sooner but passengers get scared and tire and brake usage increases dramatically. The energy of moving vehicles is calculated by this formula: Kinetic Energy= 1/2 total weight (M for mass) times velocity squared. KE=1/2M x V2. This is expressed in Joules. Distances are also affected by the winds. The more the headwind component the less the ground speed of the plane. The less runway used. Wet or ice runways or winds from the side or crosswinds, may also increase landing/stopping distances. On some airports pilots may be shooting for a specific runway exit or taxiway, designed at an shallow angle to expedite the plane exiting the runway. Check several airport runway and taxi designs to see what I mean. Good question and best of luck. I flew both military and commercial planes for 36 years.

Landing to stop distance are functions of aircraft type, load, runway condition and adhesion, tire condition, jet, turbo-prop, or prop( all contained in the POH). Most except simple trainers use a combination of speed brakes, flaps and reverse thrusters that can take them to zero without any brake application if the runway were long enough. There is a video on youtube.com of a C-17 reversing under it's own power to give you perspective of the power of reverse thrust. I never new they could do that.

It highly depends on the aircraft. An F-18 can land on a carrier with the help of wires it catches with a hook on the jet. That is about 200 feet. A 747 cannot do that....
