What does departure scan mean?

i live in Saudi Arabia, i'm waiting for a package from ARAMEX, i bought this item from Amazon.com and it keeps saying "Departure Scan" January 14, 2012 12:47:00 PM New York NY US Departure Scan January 10, 2012 09:06:00 AM New York NY US Departure Scan January 12, 2012 12:37:00 PM New York NY US Shipment received by carrier January 9, 2012 09:16:00 AM New York NY US Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit what does it mean? why did it need to scan twice? it should arrive on Jan.20

Most parcel shipping companies place bar codes on packages that can be scanned and tracked by automated equipment. A departure scan is just that. The package is scanned before being loaded onto a truck or other carrier to depart for its next leg on the route to its destination. Can't say why your package has two departure scans and no arrival scan. Perhaps it missed the bus...
