Is it possible to study engineering while training to be an airline pilot?

What are the advantages of an Aeronautical Engineering graduate to being an Airline Pilot?

  • I'm currently taking up BS Aeronautical Engineering with plans of training to be a pilot someday. I would just like to ask, what would be my edge in becoming a pilot? Do I need to take up any special courses to know anything about Air Transportation Management or any field that would help me?

    It will help in understanding the aerodynamics. However, you do not need it to become a professional pilot (civilian or military).

the difference between the two is that in one of the professions, you make lots of money pretty quick... in the other one, you wont be making good money for at least 10 years... Of course, the engineer is the one who will be making money right away... the pilot's time as a CFI and then a regional pilot will be very low pay...

Im currenylt studying aero sci and ERAU. I can tell you that if you are an engineer you'll graduate with a lot less debt if you take out a loan. An engineer grad will spend half as much money as an aero sci student will. But also realize thet their is a lot more work involved in engineering. The engineers in my dorm are up sun up to sun down trying to finish the daily 100 calculus problems they have each day(no b.s, real stats), and thats only summer session. I ,on the other hand, have one class a day and 1 flight.

You could probably be accepted to NASA as an astronaut. That's one advantage. You'll get paid more, I think, if you concentrating on the engineering side. Pilots are facing downward pressure on their salaries
