Do I need a licence to fly an airplane?

Do I need a licence to fly a microlight? (UK)?

  • I'm only 14 and I know I have high hopes and aspirations but all I've wanted is to be free and flying. I don't want to fly a jet plane. I want to fly a small (two seated if possible) microlight trike plane thingy! Here's a video if you don't know what a microlight trike is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmoIknBxtYk I read you can start training at age 14, but I'm not sure. Do you need a full pilots liscence? (takes SO much money!) We don't have much money so what do I need to become an pilot for just a trike? and how much would it cost in money and time? (In the UK! I know the US you don't need a licence! Lucky!) Thanks!

  • Answer:

Yes you can start training at 14, go solo at 16, get a licence at 17, but not an internationally recognised one. (UK only). Click on the link below, then click on "quick start information" to get the basics. http://www.bmaa.org/ Regards, Bert.
