Becoming an airline pilot.

Path to becoming an airline pilot.?

  • I just turned 14 years old, and it is my uttermost dream to become an airline pilot. I am very smart but don't have much money and do not plan on entering the military. What should i do to become a commercial airline pilot? When do I start? I am in eighth grade and average A's and A+'s. I am dedicated and I want to know what I should do to become an airline pilot. I am great at Mathematics if that helps. I do plan on going to college so what bachelors degree should I aim for? Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen

  • Answer:

Any bachelor's degree would be fine; virtually all major airlines (ex. American, United, etc.) require that their pilot's have a four year degree. As for how you should pay for flight training? I would worry about college first. Thereafter, get a good job that pays well and fly on the side (any local flight school would do). Otherwise, you can always attend a university like Embry-Riddle or the University of North Dakota -- both of which have excellent flight programs (though they are very expensive and do NOT guarantee you a job... regardless of what they claim).
