How can I become a Canadian Air Force pilot?

How do I become a commercial pilot through military service in the Royal Canadian Air Force?

  • Where do I start after graduating from high school? What do I sign up for in the RCAF? How would I transfer from being a pilot in the air force into a commercial airline pilot?

  • Answer:

Transport Canada recognizes certain levels of military flight training as equivalent. Getting an ATPL would simply require that you have enough hours, and pass the tests. You would have to finish your contract with the military before you could start flying commercially. The RCAF should not be used as a stepping stone to the airlines. Taking the civilian route is faster, easier and you get more hours out of it. You need a degree to be a military pilot, plus the training itself can take 4-5 years. You could be flying for a regional airline in the time it would take you to even touch a plane in the military. However if you are actually interested in being a military pilot, a recruiter would be able to answer all your specific questions.
