Do you get paid for training hours in a new job?

How hard to get a Pilot job in Canada, fresh out of flight school ?

  • I'm thinking of doing a 100 hs flight course and get my commercial license, either for bush piloting in the north or as a helicopter pilot. How hard is it to get a job fresh out of school? I know it is easier to get a job in the north as a bush pilot. but how about rotary wing? I paid a visit to a school in my town, and if I do my 100 hours course on a Cessna 150 it costs 25 K. And if I do it on a Cessna 180 it costs 50 K. It seems a little ridiculous to me? Will an employer not want to hire me because I have training on a smaller plane? The course on a Robinson R44 is also 50 K..

  • Answer:

With only 100 hours you will have trouble finding work! Use the lowest cost you can to get the first 100... ps I don't think you can get a commercial certificate with only 100 hours. In the US You must log at least 250 hr. of flight time as a pilot before you can take the commercial. In Canada The applicant must have a minimum of 200 hours flight time experience, including 100 hours of Pilot-in-command, and 20 hours of cross-country Pilot-in-command. Air Transport Canada has some good information for you on your quest.... http://www.atac.ca/en/learn_to_fly/pilot_career_brochure.html#_Toc65056525 Read it.
