What's the process of becoming a pilot?

Fighter Pilot / Commercial Pilot?

  • I want to be a fighter pilot its been my goal for 6 years now. I'm in my second year of high school and I'm in academic math. I finished the course with and 80%. I like math but sometimes I struggle with it. I plan on going to RMC to get a degree in either mechanical or aerospace engineering then plan to join the ROTP. From there I don't quite understand how im supposed to go about becoming a fighter pilot.. I Love to fly its my passion and im in the process of getting my license. I know Fighter Pilots career as an active pilot aren't that long because of the strain it puts on your body so after I plan to retire into commercial flying for air canada or another airline.. Is that possible? Can you explain how I would go about becoming a fighter pilot? I want to be a fighter pilot really bad, I smile thinking about it. But if its really that hard should I just skip and become a commercial pilot instead? Thanks !

  • Answer:

In Canada you must go through the selection process once you finish up with RMC.You may or may not make it into fighter school in cold lake. Having said that Air canada has not hired any new pilots in a long time. Westjet is hiring but the starting rate is about 25-35K a year. If i was just starting out today and i was not thinking about anything else but a flying career the Military is the way to go. You wont get rich but you will get to fly, and you can still go join a Major such as AirCan or westjet once things improve as far as hiring goes. Good luck
