Is it possible to clone a extinct animal/plant/tree?

ive been watching stem cell documentarys on discovery channel and they mentioned the 1996 sheep cloning in italy should it be possible to clone a extinct animal using its bones or somethin?

Yeah, I agree with the other answers. If you don't have a living cell in which to implant genetic material (the basis of cloning) it would be nearly impossible to clone that species. As for plant matter, progeny comes from seeds or a seed type structure. If there were seeds, would the plant be extinct? Look up information on the Ginkgo/Maiden Hair Tree. The tree was nearly "extinct;" however, I believe a group of monks somewhere had protected and saved seeds and now the tree is no longer endangered. It is a very neat tree! Also, I looked up a "guar" and I can't find anywhere that says it was extinct. As far as I can find it has thrived in India for a LONG time.

Jurassic Park did clone dinosaurs by finding blood in a mosquito and mixing it with frog DNA. However I think it's impossible to clone something that is instinct, you would need a living gene. There was this lady who cloned her dog too and made a litter of them in South Korea I think. But I think it would be impossible to clone something that is extinct unless you know the secret of genetics which only god knows.
