Most Common chemicals used in Pesticides?

Are the chemicals that get sprayed on crops safe?

  • i am doing a project and need to know some more details and peoples opinions about the chemicals and pesticides being sprayed on crops and food. what chemicals are being used in farmers fields and what are their purposes? can these chemicals be seriously harmful to people/animals? and in what ways? how can we prevent ourselves from getting sick or harmed by these chemicals? how are farming companies cleaning the crops afterwards to make them "safe" to eat?

  • Answer:

Crops are sprayed to stop pests like fruit flies and maggots spoiling the fruit. There have been studies carried out that prove that some of the chemicals are carcinogenic (cancer causing). Farmers and companies don't wash it, the reason for this is to make sure that from the picking time to when they are at our home they are still protected from pests. Fruits and vegies that are peeled are very safe. No washing is necessary. These are things like watermelons, cantaloupes, pumpkins, oranges etc. Things that are eaten skin and all need to be washed thoroughly, these are things like apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, lettuce etc.
