What is the control group?

What would the 'control' or 'control group' be in this science fair experiment?

  • So I'm doing an experiment with plants. It's 'Which color light do plants prefer?' where I put the plants under different color cellophane to test with color helps them grow better. I'm using clear, blue, green, and red. I know the independent variable is the different cellophane colors. The dependent variable is the plants growth/height. I know that the constants are the amount of water and plant food I gave daily. ******But what would be the control, or control group? P.S, if you need extra info, just ask.

  • Answer:

Control group is clear cellophane, or no cellophane at all. Clear cellophane, id assume, lets all the natural light in and allows the plant to grow without any certain color hitting it. The experimental group is the different colored cellophane plants, since they will grow differently than a "natural" plant.

The control group is the plants itself. If you're only doing the tests ounce for a fair. A control group is where scientists do a bunch of tests on doing whatever they're doing certain ways to find the best way to do it for their experiment.
