Can a carnivorous animal consume plants with no adverse effects?

Slight Help Needed on Science Fair Project about the Effects of Cross-Breeding Plants...!?

  • Hello...! I'm doing a Science Fair project about the effects of cross-breeding plants. It looks like I didn't really know what I was getting into, so I have a few things that I would like to know while I can still go back and change my project if needed. I would like to know: 1) What plants can grow within one or two weeks? 2) Do they vary slightly in color and shape, enough so to cross-breed them effectively? (ie. If they're flowers, do they come in different colors? If they're peas or beans, do they vary in color, shape, etcetera?) 3) Is it possible to forcibly pollinate them? If so, how long would it take? Thank you all in advance for helping me! If there's anything else that you think that I should know, please make sure to mention it. =D I'll make sure to award points to whomever gave the most helpful answer, of course. Once again, thank you!

  • Answer:

Your time constraint makes this difficult (and my time constraint too, it is almost midnight!). If you can get a hold of some pea or bean plants that are already in flower, you might have a chance, but getting the next generation to flower in time to check flower color etc still might be pushing it (but ask around, I don't really know how quickly they go from seed to flower). If you can find some pea or bean plants in flower, and some of them have variegated foliage or some other character that can be detected on young plants, that could be your answer. Good luck, I wish I could be of more help!
