In the nucleus the chromosomes uncoil forming the double-helix shape of the DNA. This DNA then uncoils from it's double helix shape and using complementary base paring of the bases A, T, G and C one strand of mRNA forms. This mRNA (messenger RNA) carries the code for protein synthesis. This process is part 1 of protein synthesis called Transcription. The mRNA then nucleus through the pores to cytoplasm and attaches to a ribosome. The mRNA carries codons. The tRNA (Transfer RNA) carrying the anti-codons meets the mRNA at the ribosomes and bond. Three of the codons attach to three of the anti-codons and make polypeptides. These polypeptides make a chain and hence protein is synthesised. This part of the process is called Translation.
