Plant identification?

Plant Identification: What plant is this?

  • I see this plant all the time and it's been growing like wildfire in the past year. I've been learning how to identify plants in my area but I can't find it in any plant identification books and wanted to know if any one of you know what it is. • Answer:

You do know you have two different plants here? The first photo shows both, the plant with the twisting stems that has the red berries (a nightshade, probably Solanum dulcamara http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SODU ) and a milkweed (the dry, brown plant that gets the pods (a species of milkweed, Asclepias sp.) Milkweeds have a large number of species, so knowing the flower color, if it was planted or native, and where the photos were taken would help to identify it. The pods don't look big enough for common milkweed, but they look fatter than butterflyweed, which is a common garden plant. If you want to try and puzzle it out for yourself, this might help you find at least which species are around you. http://plants.usda.gov/java/nameSearch
