Where on the leaf is the stomata and what is it's function?

Would you expect stomata to open or close if the CO2 concentration in a leaf decreased?

  • Stomata can open and close in response to changes in the C02 concentration inside the leaf. Would you expect stomata to open or close if the CO2 concentration decreased. Please explain. Thanks!

  • Answer:

they would open. plants need CO2 in order to produce energy. An open stomata allows gas exchange, and will let CO2 in, but it will lose water also. If it is closed, no gas can come in, but it will retain the water. It's a win lose situation.
