What type of plant is the most easy and takes least time to grow for a science project?
-
I have a science project due in December, and it's about about what type of background noise would affect the growth of a plant the most. The problem is, I don't know what types of plants would be the most easiest to use. I've thought about lima beans, but I'm not sure on how to grow those...so some input on that would be helpful also...thanks in advance!

Answer:
Beans, lima or other, are good choices. You can get a lima bean started by putting a rolled piece of blotter paper in a glass with about an inch of water and putting the bean in between the blotter paper and the glass. It's really cool b/c you can see the root come out (even if the bean is upside down) and aim for the water and watch it "branch" out with rootlets, and see clearly the shoot come up and head for the light. It would be a convenient way to do your experiment too, because you could put a speaker with one noise over one glass (with maybe three or four beans), and it will be isolated from a different glass with its beans and speaker. Good luck with your project!

sweet potato..use toothpicks about middle of it, and put it in a container of water 1/2 in, 1/2 out. It grows a nice ivy type plant pretty quick as I recall.

Most weeds are hearty and esy to grow.

Arrowhead vines make a good project plant since all you have to do is find one and cut off a short section from the end and put it in water and it will grow.[unless this is geared towards agricultural studies then I would recommend tomatoes ... plant seed water every other day moderately and plenty of good light]
