Not stupid at all. If you want to know, ask, which is what you did. Pine nuts are the seeds of the pine tree. What you have to do is check in the cones if there are any seeds in there. Most likely there are not, since cones only tend to fall off the tree once all the seeds have been released, but it's worth a shot. Also remember that the seeds can have a thin skin shaped like a wing (a bit like a maple seed) that allows for their dispersal. If you get seeds, look for nice plump ones. Use them like you'd use normal nuts, or follow recipes with them. Most often they are roasted before use.

I have never heard of people eating pine nuts,some animals might eat the cones.
