Are these Monocots or Dicots?

What are the current terms used by botanists for dicots and monocots?

  • The full-names for "dicots" and "monocots" are Dicotyledons and Monocotyledons, respectively. This is as far as I know on the terminology that deals with the two - does anyone, specifically botanists, what the contemporary terms are for the two classifications?

  • Answer:

As far as the morphological reference is involved ; there is no change whatsoever in the two terms you have mentioned. But in classification or Systematic Botany the terms have been replaced . 1)Scientific classification of Family Malvaceae == see below == Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Malvales Family: Malvaceae In the above classification Class 'Dicotyledonae' is replaced by the term ' Magnoliopsida ' 2)Scientific classification of Asteraceae family= see below = Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae In the above classification also it is the same as in Malvaceae. 3 ) Scientific classification of Liliaceae family = see below= Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Liliopsida Order: Liliales Family: Liliaceae In the above classification the class ' Monocotyledonae' is replaced by ' Liliopsida' 4 ) Scientific classification of Poaceae or Grass Family. Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Liliopsida Order: Poales Family: Poaceae Here also it is the same thing as in Liliaceae family. That means Magnolipsida is equivalent to earlier Docots ( Dicotyeledonae ) AND Liliopsida means earlier Monocots ( Monocotyledonae )
