What does pH have to do with the rate of photosynthesis?

In photosynthesis experiment, if photosynthesis happen, the pH of the solution will become more alkaline.Why?

  • i'm making report for photosynthesis of Elodea plant,why the water turn more alkaline if photosynthesis happen???

    Carbon dioxide dissolves in water forming carbonic acid. As the plant photosynthesizes, the carbonate ions are removed causing a shift in pH.
