    Diffusion is molecules moving from an area of high density to one of low density without using energy (passive transport). It's vital in animals because it moves oxygen to blood in the lungs, and carbon dioxide and oxygen in and out of the blood in body tissue. Osmosis is the tendency of a fluid, or solvent, to move to a more concentrated area through a semipermeable membrane. The transport of water across cell walls is essential to many processes in living organisms. Active transport means movement in the direction opposite that of diffusion, or movement from an area of low density to an area of higher density. This will require energy, unlike diffusion, and so is active. Nutrients cross the intestinal wall by active transport, and waste products are discarded.
