Do the thylakoid membranes contain chlorophyll and other pigments that absorb sunlight?

Does chlorophyll and other pigments found in the thylakoid membranes absorb sunlight or reflect it?

  • Answer:

They do absorb sunlight for photosynthesis, but some wavelengths of light are reflected by chlorophyll - for instance chlorophyll a, the most common chlorophyll, reflects green wavelengths. This is why plants look green to us. Other types of photosynthetic pigments are found in leaves, too: -chlorophyll b (reflects yellow) -carotenoids (reflects red, yellow, and orange)
