Are these Monocots or Dicots?

Monocots and Dicots: differences/simillarities?

  • i'm writing a paper on comparing and contrasting monocots and dicots. I have down the classic micro/macro differences between the two (mono have leaves in 3's, dicots in 4 or fives, leaf venation etc) but what about similarities? do both dicots and monocots have parenchyma, collenchyma and schlerenchyma cells? what about tracheids and vessel members, sieve tube members and companion cells? cork cells? what do dicots have that monocots dont? what about their water intake and nutrient intake? does it follow a different path? i want to make my paper perfect and cover all aspects as i got a bad grade on the last paper i wrote for not having enough info (even though the instructor was not clear on what he wanted). please let me know, and if i can get a website that woudl be great too so i can cite it. i'm not having any luck finding a good site. majority of sites just jot down the basic information that i have already.. thanks for all your help guys!

  • Answer:

dicots- the alignment of xyhlmand phloemis circular, vestigeal endosperm, monos- improper alingment of vascular bundle vestigeal cotyledons. both of them have ascent of sap via root pressure, but by cohesion and adhesion only for dicots. the lateral meristem(cork cambium,inter-fascicular cambium) is absent in monocots.as a result no girth to the stem. C4, CAM plants are mostly from monocots. and u might be knowing about the root system..dicot-taperous, monocot-adventitious.
