How to extract parts of (La)TeX document?

How can i extract the latex from euphorbia tirucalli for phytochemical screening?

  • i wanted to extract this plant to test for it's antimicrobial activity because of it's traditional claim in some parts of the world as a wound dressing.

  • Answer:

You find publications to extract the plant-material with water, ethanol 90% and some other organic solvents. Doing it with water, they cut it and boil it gently about 0,5 to 1 hour, filter it and let it dry while stirring, that the biggest part of the water vaporized. With the ethanol it is mazerated for 5 to 7 days, than filtered and concentrated by destillation. But i`m sure, that the substances in these extracts are different ones. If you want the latex pure, cut parts of the plant and waite till the sap is dropped out. In this way some will remain in the plant, but there is no extraction of substances out of plant-tissue. But be carefull, the latex is very irritating to the skin and can cause temporary blindness. http://www.fao.org/docrep/X5327e/x5327e12.htm Here you find a lot of links referring contents of Euphorbiaceae incl.
